Sometimes we need a little bit of David Beckham in our day!


Victoria Beckham, you’ve got quite a man! Soccer star David Beckham launched his collection of bodywear for H&M a year ago, and for his first anniversary, he’s promoting his new lineup in an action-packed way—a video of him running through the streets of Beverly Hills wearing only his skimpy army green boxer briefs and a pair of flimsy white slippers. The short, directed by fellow Brit Guy Ritchie, offers plenty of great moments, such as shots of his sculpted backside in tiny, tiny shorts, close-ups of his adorable smirk, and zoom-ins of his chiseled abs. “I’m so nervous!” Kelly Osbourne told backstage before she hit the runway for The Heart Truth’s Red Collection 11th Anniversary Fashion Show, sponsored by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, Diet Coke, and WebMD. The butterflies-in-the-stomach feeling was one that radiated through backstage at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York, where 17 stars prepared to walk the runway for a cause—raising awareness for women’s heart health—and had an all-access pass to see every mani, makeup, and hair strand get perfectly in place. “It’s so out of my comfort zone,” fitness guru Jillian Michaels said as she primped for the show. “But this is such a cool event, I’m so excited. With her inspirations being Sophia Loren and Marilyn Monroe, it is no doubt that the designs exude sensuality and confidence.

Laura Rene’ Roberson began her life as a fashion fiend, infatuated with fashion and design. From her teen years on she analyzed every page of Vogue Magazine, obsessing about the current trends and designers and finding a way to make it her own on a very limited budget.   Born in a small town in North Carolina and growing up around confident, voluptuous women, she began working at the age of 14 in men’s and women’s retail stores because of her love for fashion and her desire to help everyone feel unique.  It was that work ethic that led her to study business and marketing in High School, becoming the Marketing Regional President and running for State President. Later, in college she would study business, management, marketing, interior design, art history and fashion design.

Being a fashion fiend and wanting to create a sensual but timeless clothing and accessories line, Rene’ tapped back into the fashion industry and solidified a valuable team to help her bring her sketches for her founding brand, Laura Rene’ Private Label, to life.  She has worked with her team to create a brand centered on premium fashion for curvy women, who want excellent style and the same options that smaller sized women have.  The spirit of a vivacious, curvy women herself, Rene’ is very familiar with the style options available and the difficulty it sometimes brings in trying to find sexy and classic premium clothing that fits well but is also fashionable.  Her brand recognizes the void in the market and wants to empower women to be comfortable in their own skin and to feel inspired by their own sensuality and confidence, no matter what shape or size.

Why Does Curvy Matter?

Vogue Italia’s gutsy editor-in-chief, Franca Sozzaniwanted to make a bold statement with the June 2011 issue. Her bold decision to host curvy models on the front cover sent the fashion world into a tizzy.

Did you know Vogue Italia had a Vogue Curvy online magazine celebrating everything curvy?  Neither did I!  As the fashion industry is trying to portray a more positive body image with their models, it seems that CURVY is the new trend. Ralph Lauren just named Robyn Lawley as the face of their brand.  I, myself, as a curvy Designer and CEO of LAURA RENE, am an US size 10/12, just like Robyn.

As a divorced mother of three, I have spent the last 10 years struggling with weight issues.  As a fit size 4/6 before kids, and then after a hysterectomy, I found that losing weight was a huge battle! Blame it on genes, not eating well, lack of hormones, etcetera.  It became an obsession that I could no longer feel or look like I did in my twenties.  Do I workout? Yes! but weight does not melt off like it did.  Now, at 41, I am accepting of my body image. I love who I am and that I feel more sensual, sexier and beautiful in the skin I am in.  I live a healthy lifestyle, but I am not going to freak out that I have a piece of cake or ate a plate of pasta that week.  I watch what I eat, I exercise with my dogs and kids and am in love with life.

Curvy does matter to me.  It matters that I portray a healthy, positive attitude to generations that think a size 0 is what we are all supposed to obtain.  No woman or girl is shaped the same and it is wrong that as a designer, mother, sister, daughter,  and friend to show an emaciated form in my models or  that my clothing only looks good on stick thin figures.  That is not what my brand embodies and it is not what I personally believe.  I love the fact that women, such as Marie Denee, speaker,  influential blogger of The Curvy Fashionista and writer of the e-book, Curvy. Confident. Chic, has taken a stance to show the world that curvy is beautiful.  That many women and men in the fashion industry, editors, modeling agencies, designers, etc., have acknowledged women come in all shapes and sizes.  I hope this “trend” continues in the fashion industry and that all women become empowered to voice a broader view of beauty.
